Stone Fountains
Nothing is perhaps more beautiful than a finely crafted stone fountain.  It takes the artisan a great deal of work and foresight.  For this reason, they can certainly be appreciated by homeowners. 

Ball Fountains
At Disneyland and some Zoos they will have a giant stone fountain that is a rolling ball.  The ball spins on water.  You can sit and look at it for hours and it will cool your senses.  Children love to go up to the ball and spin it.  The ball has just enough water coming under it that it is lightly suspended in water and spins naturally.  Some of these types of fountains are stone imitations and others are made or marble or real stone.  You will always be happier with natural items that are not imitations. 

Figurine Fountains
Figurine fountains are often carved out of marble or stone.  For some reason, every figurine fountain, practically, is a woman figurine.  They are often white in color and somewhat nude.  They are accompanied by a pool of water that is often shaped into some leafs.  In addition, plants are imitated in the marble structure.  In some, the water is cleverly used to accentuate the essence of the figurine pose.

Aerator Fountains 
This type of fountain is really just a pond.  The pond is usually lined with stone both under and over the water.  An aerator is used to get oxygen into the water.  It helps keep the water clean because stagnant water breeds bacteria and grows moss and algae.  The aerators can shoot several feet into the air  there will be more than one on occasions.  It all depends on the size of the pond.

Animal Fountains – Bird Baths
Bird baths are often made out of stone.  They are about four feet tall and have a small pool of water.  They can be a plain old place to pool water, or be an actual fountain for birds. 

Other fountains are carved by an artisan into the animal of choice.  Lions are perhaps the most popular fountain feature.  The water is often circulated out of the lions mouth and into a container of sorts.  There are many other animals that are carved.  For example, elephants, tigers, wolves, donkeys, and fish are other choices available.  If you have a particular desire, you may hire an artisan to create something unique.  One fountain we installed was actually a scary looking gargoyle.  It used to be a light, but we plumbed it for water and set it in the center of a pond.
