Metal Furniture

Outdoor Metal Furniture
Metal furniture is typically made out of iron, steel, or aluminum.  Each metal has its own strengths.

Wrought Iron
Iron is easy to weld and this makes it an item that can be done in a very ornate fashion.  Custom pieces can easily be constructed for the inside and outside of the home.  A lot of high end homes have artisans create individual furniture, railings, and designs.

Iron furniture is very stable, but it is also very heavy.  You won’t be able to move it easily so plan accordingly.  It is also extremely hard, like all metal furniture, and needs cushioning to make it comfortable.  Black wrought iron is the most common outdoor furniture.

Steel
Steel furniture is typically mass produced for big box stores.  Like wrought iron, it needs cushioning to be comfortable.  Hammock steel swings are some of the most popular items sold. Steel is inexpensive, but is more difficult for artisans to work with.  It is lighter to move than iron and very strong as well.  It is less prone to rust than iron; as well.

Aluminum
Aluminum is even lighter in weight than steel.  It is also not as strong.  It isn’t a very common metal for outdoor furniture, but you will see it occasionally.  One of the most common areas you will see aluminum is in lawn chairs.  Aluminum is primarily used when something needs to be lightweight.

Sculptures
Bronze sculptures look great in the yard.  They are somewhat expensive, but have a strong appeal to luxury homes.  Sculptures are often in the themes of people and animals.

Sconces
Metal wall sconces take us back to a time when life moved more slowly.  Many metal sconces look like they are from medieval times.  They uniquely bring character and beauty to our homes.
