Lawn Furniture
What is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about lawn furniture?  For me, it’s sitting in a lawn chair on dark green grass and playing lawn darts.  When you start to see the grass turning green and the warm summer nights creeping up, you know summer is soon around the corner.

Lawn Chairs
Lawn chairs are inexpensive to buy and easily transportable.  They are made of aluminum and woven with polyester fabrics.  The fabric is often quite colorful and the aluminum is laid bare. 

Many of us have outdoor parties and don’t have enough seating for everyone.  For example, who wants 30 chairs on their outdoor patio?  The perfect solution to this are lawn chairs.  You can keep several in your garage and use them for parties, the beach, camping, or even fishing. 

Lawn Darts
To play lawn darts, you take a ring and put it somewhere in your lawn.  Then people take turns throwing them up in the air to see who can make it in the ring.  It’s a fun way to pass time on a summer day.

Lawn Chess
Do you ever feel like you just want to get outside and enjoy the yard?  You anticipate going outside and, when you do, you find out it’s kind of boring.  One of the solutions for this problem is outdoor chess.  Outdoor chess pieces are gigantic.  The are about four feet tall and come on a huge mat.  It can be a fun thing to play at a party or with a friend.  You will find that the outdoor time goes fast and is more enjoyable. 

Outdoor Barbeque Sets
On the patio, next to the lawn, most people will have a gas or charcoal grill.  Cooking in the summer will be more fun.  In addition, grilled meat has less fat.  The other factor is that an outdoor barbeque is fun for parties.

Lawn Furniture Sets    
It may not be typical, but you can set up a sofa, loveseat, and recliner on the lawn.  Make sure you get a light variety like wicker or steel.  For parties, you can quickly set up for a party and then move the furniture to the patio.  This is a good reason not to buy wrought iron furniture or heavy wood furniture.

Light Up Bocce Ball
Bocce ball is fun to play during the day and at night.  You may store the bocce ball set in a wicker chest on the patio.  Light up Bocce ball is very fun to play at night.  Late night parties are more fun with bocce ball.

Croquet
Croquet is a favorite pastime.  Every home should have a croquet set.  It is a fun party game.  The ideal yard will have a smooth lawn with short grass.  Some people even cut their grass extra short in swaths to make the croquet seem more like a well groomed fairway.  To keep bumps out of the lawn, make sure you aerate in the spring and in the fall.  Also, be careful what plants you choose because some have runners that make the grass bumpy (Quaken Aspen are the worst).  If your lawn bumps become unmanageable, rent a motorized lawn roller to smooth them out.

Lawn Bowling
You have to set the pins up yourself, but it is good exercise.  It is also a fun party games.  Lawn bowling usually has many multicolored pins that you set up like regular bowling or in your own configurations.  The ball is large and light like the pins.

Lawn and Temperature
One of the very nicest things about the lawn is that it helps keep the yard cool. It releases oxygen and humidity into the air.  It makes summer nights and summer games more pleasing. 

Lawn Stakes
There are decorative stakes and utility stakes.  Utility stakes are for tents and or for a rope to straighten out a crooked tree. 

Decorative stakes have animals or designs on them.  Our yard has a cat and a dragonfly.  The stakes can be put in flower beds wherever you want to add something interesting.

Lawn Mulch 
Is it better to mulch or bag your lawn?  The correct answer is mulch.  What does that mean?  It means that you simply don’t bag.  Mulch returns nutrients to the soil.  One myth going around is that mulching contributes to thatch.  This is simply not true.  Thatch is the buildup of the lawn root system that is replaced every year.  Grass clippings break down and feed the lawn and help the lawn retain moisture.  Lawn clippings are also a great item to put in your garden. 

Lawn Plants
Plants in the lawn are usually trees or shrubs.  You don’t find small perennials because it would be so easy to mow them down.  You might also find various weeds in the lawn that should be pulled or sprayed.  One of the all time favorite lawn plants is a Flowering Pear or Flowering Plum tree.  Lawn cutouts are a great design feature and shouldn’t be overlooked.  The parking strip is good place to start with a cutout and perhaps a boulder.
