April Showers Bring Spring Flowers
Spring brings with it some beautiful flowers. It’s like the earth is saying, “Wake up. It’s time to for a beautiful summer.” The first blooming Tulips in early spring excite us for the coming year. The ideal thing to do is to plant a lot of perennial flowers that will naturally come out in the spring without a lot of effort.
Spring flowers are usually referring to bulbous plants that are planted in the fall and come out in early spring.
Tulips
Every home should have some Tulips. They are among the first plants to bloom in the spring. They come in many colors and variations. Ideally, plant the bulbs in fall and you will see them bloom in spring.
Daffodils
Daffodils are known for being yellow even though they come in other colors. They grow about the same height as tulips and have a lighter texture and shape.
Forsythia
It is actually a hardy shrub. It blooms a bright almost fluorescent green. The blooms are so small you may just thing that it’s a beautiful leaf. In fact, they are tiny blooms that cover the entire plant. Forsythia do not grow very thickly and you can almost see through most of them. They are one of the most beautiful spring flowers.
Iris
Taller than Tulips and Daffodils, but has darker shades of purple and blue. They are best planted in fall.
Hyacinths
They are a low growing flower that comes from the Mediterranean. The flowers are cylindrical and cone shaped. They are most often purple, but are also white, red, pink, and yellow. They have a sweet fragrant smell.
Crocus
Crocus flowers are a relative to the Lily. They are one of the first to flower in spring. A large Dutch Crocus is a favorite among gardening professionals.
Passion Flower - Maypop
In the southeastern United States, the Maypop is a weed. It sprouts up all over the place. It has very unique beautiful flowers. It will bloom for around two months. They grow well in partial to full sun. They are not cold hardy.
