Blue is the friendliest color. It’s something you can look at and not feel like you need to look away. Much of our world is the color blue; both they sky and the ocean. Blue has a tranquilizing effect and helps us to feel cool. Since blue is not that popular of a color with flowers, it’s always refreshing to see. Here is what first comes to mind with blue flowers.
Blue Hydrangea
Hydrangeas have huge flowers. They have a blue variety that is quite attractive. The hydrangea is an average sized shrub.
Iris
Iris flowers have a lot of blue shades. Since this is not common for plants, the Iris is one of the best choices when looking for blue. The Iris is a flower that has leaves similar to a Tulip and grows 2-3’ high.
Salvia
The beauty of the salvia is how dark and rich the blue color looks. Salvia are low growing plants that can be perennials or annuals. Don’t get confused when you go to the nursery. In addition, many Salvia are not blue.
Blue Mist Spirea
Spirea are just awesome shrubs. They are low growing and nearly everyone loves their flowers. The blue mist spirea has deep blue flowers.
Russian Sage
Is it blue or purple? Russian sage is more of a purple than blue. The purple does have blue tint to it. Sage is easy to grow and is drought tolerant.
Violets
Roses are red, violets are blue. Well, some people will see blue and others will see purple. Like the Russian Sage you are getting a bluish purple.
Plumbago
It’s a very hardy groundcover that is low growing with bluish purple blooms.
Veronica Repens
Do you want the flower to be actually blue and not a shade of purple? The Veronica Repens is a true blue. The flower is as blue as you are going to get. This plant is good for flower gardens.
Lilac
Some Lilac claim to be blue, but you should keep in mind that it’s really a blue shade of purple.
